Production of Kids' Pajamas and In-Room Amenity Bags for Capella Kyoto

Opened in March 2026 in Kyoto's Miyagawacho district, Capella Kyoto is the first hotel in Japan from Capella, the Singapore-based luxury hotel brand.
The hotel stands on the former site of Shinmichi Elementary School, a building that served the neighbourhood for more than a century, and its architectural supervision by Kengo Kuma has drawn considerable attention. For the opening, Foo Tokyo supervised and produced the kids' pajamas that welcome younger guests in their rooms, together with a set of in-room fabric amenity bags: a yoga mat bag, a hair dryer bag and a newspaper bag.
Craftsmanship in Harmony with a Contemporary Machiya
Capella Kyoto is built around the concept of the "contemporary machiya" — a modern reinterpretation of Kyoto's traditional culture. To sit comfortably within that space, Foo Tokyo placed harmony with the hotel's world view first at every stage, from the choice of materials through to the smallest details of the design.
The pieces we made are not simply functional fixtures. Each one is finished by hand, intended as part of the experience through which guests feel Kyoto's history and quiet for themselves.

Kids' Pajamas: The Finest Touch for Our Smallest Guests

Every room at Capella Kyoto measures more than 50 square metres. So that younger guests visiting with their families can relax as they would at home, we created a dedicated set of kids' pajamas.
We took the 100% cotton fabric used in our Silky Cotton Pajamas — smooth, with a quiet lustre — dyed it in Capella Kyoto's theme colour, and finished it in children's sizes (100 / 120 / 140).
Piping was deliberately left off, giving a minimal look that settles naturally into Capella Kyoto's refined interiors. The Capella Hotel Group logo is placed at the chest.

The fabric is woven from very fine 80-count yarn, which gives it a dense, smooth hand. A mercerising finish applied to the knitted fabric brings a silk-like touch and lustre to cotton.
Made in Kyoto: In-Room Amenity Bags

To bring a little more beauty to the hours guests spend in their rooms, Foo Tokyo supervised and produced three fabric amenity bags.
All three are Made in Kyoto, produced by a sewing factory and a printing company in the city.
The design draws on the asanoha, or hemp leaf, motif — an elegant pattern from yusoku monyo, the traditional decorative patterns of the Japanese court. The nuances of colour were adjusted carefully so that the pattern sits in harmony with Capella Kyoto's guest rooms.
