A story of colors that makes you feel the passage of time

Foo Tokyo towels come in three colors: white, pink, and charcoal gray. This color development was inspired by the story of a single cherry blossom.

It is one of the five major cherry blossoms in Japan, the Usuzumi-zakura. Known as a 1,500-year-old cherry tree, the pink buds change to white as they reach full bloom, and as they mature over time, they turn pale black, hence the name. Three colors that evoke the beauty of the passage of time.

About organic cotton towels

What we create is a product that lets you breathe a sigh of relief. The Foo towel is such a comforting towel that you can bury your face and take a breather.

The material used is rare organic cotton, which is less than 0.001% of the world's cotton production. The fibers are hand-picked so as not to damage the fibers themselves, so even when the fibers are twisted into threads, they are exceptionally soft.

Organic cotton harvested in India is made into high-quality yarn, and is finished as "Foo Towel" in Imabari, a famous towel production area. It is manufactured with special technology and time to bring out the texture of the thread, and it has a fluffy texture that you can't live without once you use it. Foo towels are highly rated for their quality, and have been sold at Ugenta, a luxury inn in Kibune, Kyoto, and major department stores.

With Foo Tokyo's wish of "relaxing time from the bottom of your heart", we have embroidered an original logo with a bird motif on the corner of the towel, which symbolizes "peace and happiness".

Three key points

1. Outstanding water absorption
The yarn itself contains air, so it boasts outstanding water absorption that begins to sink within 5 seconds when it floats on water. Gently wraps wet skin after a bath and quickly absorbs moisture.

2. Fluffiness lasts
From the stage when the cotton is made into yarn, it is processed so that it does not lose its softness, so it is a special specification that does not harden even after washing and continues to be fluffy.

3. Imabari towel brand certified product
Proof of high-quality towel products that have passed our own quality standards, consistently performed from production to quality control in the Imabari towel production area. This is a proof that can only be given to some products that have passed strict standards such as water absorbency, hair loss rate, and color fastness. (Certification number: No. 2018-626)

Five commitments

1. Commitment to cotton (cotton)

Foo towels use rare extra-long-staple organic cotton "DCH-32", which is less than 0.001% of the world's cotton production. The farm is located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, in southern India. Despite being surrounded by a harsh environment where the difference in temperature between day and night is more than 20°C, organic cotton is grown healthily thanks to the blessings of the seasonal winds that blow from the Arabian Sea to the Indian Ocean.

Extra-long cotton “DCH-32” is grown on organic cotton cultivation farms contracted by Japanese spinning companies. Organic cotton is cotton that has been grown without genetic modification on land that has not used pesticides or chemical fertilizers for more than three years. In ordinary cotton cultivation, which is not organic, many chemical fertilizers and pesticides are used to stabilize the yield and harvest early because the purpose is mass production. However, instead of using insect repellents to control pests, this farm uses traditional hand-made medicinal herbs. In addition, by carefully hand-picking each one, the cotton fibers are not damaged, and the fluffy texture can be maintained when the yarn is finished.

2. Commitment to yarn processing

The yarn used for Foo towels is said to be “extremely sweet twisted”, and because the fibers are less twisted than ordinary yarns, the fibers themselves contain air and are fluffy. On the other hand, if the number of twists is small, the strength tends to be weak, but by using an advanced and special technique called "one-strand starching", which glues the fibers one by one, the yarn is less likely to break even with extremely loose twists.

We are particular about the chemicals used in yarn processing.

Instead of the conventional "scouring bleaching" that uses a large amount of chemicals, we use the "TZ acid enzyme method" that is gentle on the environment and the skin. The "TZ acid enzyme method" does not use "chlorine" or "caustic soda (sodium hydroxide)", which is a strong alkali and acutely toxic substance, so each fiber is healthy without damaging it. Therefore, it is possible to make it soft to the touch.

3. Commitment to the Environment

Since no endocrine disruptors, formalin, or fluorescent whitening agents are used in the thread processing process, it is safe and secure for the body and the environment. It is possible to maximize the original high water absorbency of cotton without imposing a burden on the environment.

4. Commitment to the weaving method

In order to pursue softness and lightness, the Foo towel uses a single single yarn weaving method instead of a two-ply yarn consisting of two twisted yarns. In addition, because we use delicate threads, we use medium speed looms instead of high speed looms, which are efficient but tend to break. This manufacturing method requires time and high skill, but Foo towels are woven with the support of skilled craftsmen in Imabari.

5. Commitment
to production area Imabari, Ehime, is famous for producing towels. Foo towels are made in Imabari, supported by the skills of many craftsmen. Imabari is blessed with a warm climate and soft water with few impurities, making it a suitable land for processing yarn. Since this soft water is consistently used for towel manufacturing, it has a positive effect on the whiteness and color development of cotton threads and fabrics.

Also, in order to make one towel, related factories such as twisting, dyeing, and sewing are required. Imabari is dotted with related factories, so it is possible to finish from weaving to finished products within the production area. Foo towels, which are made in such a blessed environment and by the hands of Japanese craftsmen, are towels that bring out the inherent goodness of threads and fabrics.
